O potrzebie i poszukiwaniu „restartu” Europy, budowaniu sojuszy społeczeństw, pogłębianiu współpracy w ramach Trójkąta Weimarskiego, w tym w wymiarze parlamentarnym, rozmawiał marszałek Sejmu Szymon Hołownia z przewodniczącą Bundesratu Republiki Federalnej Niemiec Anke Rehlinger. Rozmowa dotyczyła także priorytetów prezydencji Polski w Radzie UE, w tym bezpieczeństwa europejskiego, również w kontekście wojny w Ukrainie oraz relacji i współpracy z nową administracją amerykańską. – Mam nadzieję, że znajdziemy sposób, żeby znów Trójkąt Weimarski funkcjonował tak, jak tego oczekujemy i tak, jak to jest potrzebne Europie, a nasze relacje oparte będą o wspólne poczucie odpowiedzialności za bezpieczeństwo regionu, który zmienia się tak bardzo na naszych oczach i stawia przed nami coraz to nowe wyzwania – mówił marszałek Hołownia. – Polska buduje silne przywództwo w tej części Europy – podkreślił.
– Musimy być w Europie tymi, którzy w pewnym sensie wymyślą ją na nowo i nadadzą jej taki impet, takie priorytety, które pozwolą przenieść ideę integracji europejskiej na następne pokolenia. Zagrożenia ze strony radykalnych sił, które chcą rozpadu Europy, muszą zostać zastąpione lepszą propozycją współpracy i działania, którą my – jako kraje, jako parlamenty – zaprezentujemy ludziom. Jestem przekonany, że nadzieja jest lepszym sygnałem niż strach – zaznaczył.
– Przed nami są również wyzwania na linii transatlantyckiej, związane z nową administracją w Stanach Zjednoczonych. Polska prezydencja w Radzie UE przypada na czas, w którym będą wykuwały się priorytety nowej administracji USA i musimy być asertywni, ale równocześnie otwarci na współpracę, jasno pokazując, jaką Europa i USA niosą odpowiedzialność za bezpieczeństwo świata. To można zrobić tylko razem, dlatego jak najszybciej powinniśmy nasze parlamentarne kontakty przenieść na wyższy poziom – podkreślił.
– Żyjemy w burzliwych czasach dużej niepewności. Mamy najróżniejsze wyzwania i wydaje się, że jesteśmy zgodni co do oceny sytuacji. Obserwujemy wzmożone działania pewnych sił politycznych, które starają się wykorzystać tę niepewność. Zadanie odpowiedzialnej polityki polega na tym, by takim sytuacjom przeciwdziałać, zniwelować niepewność i zadbać o większe bezpieczeństwo. Ważne, byśmy te działania podejmowali razem, w oparciu o wspólne wartości – podkreśliła Przewodniczącą Bundesratu.
– Jestem świadoma znaczenia, roli Polski w kontekście napastniczej wojny Putina w Ukrainie. Wiem, jaką rolę odgrywa Polska w kontekście zapewniania bezpieczeństwa Europie. Polska kształtuje przyszłość Europy. To ważne zarówno z perspektywy Niemiec, jak i Trójkąta Weimarskiego – mówiła.

Meeting of the Speaker of the Sejm and the President of the German Bundesrat
The need and search for a way to ‘reboot’ Europe, building alliances between societies, and developing cooperation within the Weimar Triangle, including the parliamentary dimension, were the key topics discussed by the Speaker of the Sejm, Szymon Hołownia, with the President of the Bundesrat of the Federal Republic of Germany Anke Rehlinger. Their talks also focused on the priorities of Poland's presidency of the Council of the European Union, including European security in the context of the war in Ukraine as well as relations and cooperation with the new administration in the United States. 'I hope that we will find a way to reboot the Weimar Triangle and make it align with our expectations and the needs of Europe. I also hope that our relations will be based on a shared sense of responsibility for the security of the region, which continues to change before our eyes and presents us with new challenges', said Speaker Hołownia. 'Poland is building a strong leadership in this region of Europe', he pointed out.
'We need to reinvent Europe in a way, and give it a new momentum by setting priorities that will enable the idea of European integration to be carried forward to the next generation. We need to respond to the threat posed by radical forces, which want to break Europe up, by better proposals for cooperation and efforts, which we – states and parliaments – need to present to the people. I am convinced that hope is much better than fear', he stressed.
'Some other challenges concern transatlantic relations – they stem from the new administration in the United States. The Polish presidency of the EU Council coincides with the time of setting new priorities by the new US administration. We need to remain assertive, while remaining open to cooperation. We also need to make it clear that Europe and the United States bear responsibility for world security. We can only do this together, which is why we should take our parliamentary contacts to the next level as soon as possible', he emphasized.
'We live in turbulent times, in an age of great uncertainty. We are facing all kinds of challenges and we seem to have the same outlook on the situation. We are seeing increased efforts by certain political forces that are seeking to exploit this uncertainty. Our responsible policy needs to counteract these threats, remove uncertainty and ensure greater security. We need to do this together, based on common values', the President of the Bundesrat noted.
'I am aware of the importance and the role of Poland in the context of Putin's war in Ukraine. I understand Poland’s role in the context of ensuring the security of Europe. Poland is shaping the future of Europe. This is important from the point of view of Germany and the Weimar Triangle', she said.
